Srikakulam: Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu has congratulated the weavers of Srikakulam for getting GI tagging.
In a post on X, he said he is feeling immense pride and emotion as after years of tireless pursuit, countless meetings, documentation, follow-ups, and unwavering determination, Ponduru Khadi has finally been awarded the prestigious GI Tag." This achievement is deeply personal to me. This isn’t just a recognition of a fabric—it is the honouring of the legacy of Srikakulam’s weavers. Srikakulam’s pride is now the nation’s pride," he stated.
The Minister, who represents Srikakulam in Lok Sabha, said Ponduru Khadi, considered one of the finest handmade khadis, played a key role in the Independence movement and was cherished by Mahatma Gandhi ji. It carries generations of history in every thread. Our weavers, despite facing hardships, never abandoned their craft. Their patience, skill, and faith kept this tradition alive, and their hands have woven not just fabric, but identity.
He conveyed special thanks to the Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) for its support in attaining the GI tag. "Above all, this achievement is dedicated to our weavers, who preserved this art through generations despite hardships. This GI tag will strengthen their identity, boost livelihoods, and carry Ponduru Khadi to the world with renewed glory," he opined.
