Vijayawada: Highlighting the urgent need to curb greenhouse gas emissions and combat air pollution, Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has called for a multi-pronged, consumer-centric approach to climate resilience through sustainable energy efficiency practices, involving both the public and private sectors as well as all sections of society.

APERC Chairman PVR Reddy pledged complete support to Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and said that energy efficiency is no longer merely an operational choice but a development imperative, delivering long-term ecological, economic, and social benefits.

As part of the national push to promote pro-environmental lifestyles, the Chairman, along with CMDs of the State DISCOMs P Pulla Reddy, L Shiva Shanker, and Prudvitej - released a Mission LiFE poster in Vijayawada.

The poster, prepared by the Media and Communication Wing of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), underscores the role of individual and institutional action in protecting the environment.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman appreciated the efforts of Central agencies including BEE and EESL, under the Ministry of Power, and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), as well as key State institutions such as APTRANSCO, APGENCO, the DISCOMs, APSECM, and APSEEDCO for driving Andhra Pradesh’s leadership in energy efficiency initiatives at the national level.

He noted that strong collaboration between the Centre and the State, supported by key departments such as Energy, Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD), Panchayat Raj & Rural Development (PR&RD), Housing, and Tourism, has helped Andhra Pradesh to sustain its prominent standing in the country’s energy transition efforts.

The Chairman also highlighted the growing impact of Mission LiFE in encouraging climate-positive behavioural change among citizens and urged DISCOM leadership and the CEO of APSECM to place special emphasis on consumer-centric mechanisms to expand the reach and effectiveness of the programme for broader societal benefit.

In this context, APERC outlined its regulatory and facilitative initiatives in the areas of energy conservation, energy efficiency, demand-side management (DSM), and demand response (DR).
