Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Government on Monday signed eight tourism projects envisaging an investment of Rs1,217 crore with a potential to generating 2,667 jobs across the State. The Tourism Department inked the MoUs at the regional tourism investment conference, in the presence of AP Assembly Speaker Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh, Special Chief Secretary, Tourism Ajay Jain, APTDC Chairman Nukasani Balaji, Vice-Chairman-cum-Managing Director Amrapali Kata and others.

Durgesh said the agreements on developing new hotels will add 825 rooms to the State inventory. He said the New Tourism Policy has been launched to accord industry status to the tourism sector so that the investors could get power, capital subsidy and other benefits on par with the industries. He also hinted at reducing the bar fees for the star hotels and resorts and extending the time of their operations till late hours to encourage tourism.

The MoUs signed include international luxury hotels brand Atmosphere Core Hospitality adding about 500 rooms at three locations including Vizag, Tirupati and Amaravati, Sumi Yashshree Hotels which has its presence in East and North-East India with 22 hotels entering AP with 75 rooms in Vizag, a luxury cruise by Dolphin Ocean Cruises operating from Vizag, a MICE & Destination Wedding Convention Center by Ripples & Co. in ASR district, and Everest Enterprises and Blue Bay Infra with about 100-room luxury resort in Vizag, and Royal Palms & Hotel S Park adding about 100 rooms in Bapatla district.

Referring to the suggestions made by Ayyanna Patrudu, Kandula Durgesh said they will take steps to avoid delays and introduce clearing proposals received from the investors within a month and make entertainment the main theme of tourism promotion. He also promised discussions at the highest level on how to allow investments in tourism infrastructure by non-tribals in the agency areas and relaxation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms.
