AP govt pledges full support to Centre on climate action
State has rolled out special, time-bound initiatives to implement key programs of Ministry of Power’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency

Vijayawada: Reaffirming its commitment to environmental protection through energy efficiency and renewable energy, Andhra Pradesh Government on Friday announced full support to the Union Government’s national efforts to combat climate change.
As part of this commitment, the State has rolled out special, time-bound initiatives to implement key programs of the Ministry of Power’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), including the Energy Conservation Building Code, Perform–Achieve–Trade (PAT) scheme, Standards & Labelling programme, and various demand-side management initiatives. Andhra Pradesh continues to be recognised as one of India’s most pioneering states in the field of energy efficiency.
Chief Secretary K Vijayanand, who also chairs the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), noted that Andhra Pradesh has earned national acclaim by securing more than eight National Energy Conservation Awards in the past decade through rigorous implementation of energy efficiency programs.
Marking the upcoming National Energy Conservation Week (NECW) being observed nationwide from December 14–20, the Chief Secretary directed CMD of DISCOMs Prudvitej, P Pulla Reddy, Shiva Shankar Lotheti VC & MD NREDCAP M. Kamalaket Babu and all District Collectors, to work in close coordination with SECM, SDA of AP to ensure widespread public participation and make the campaign a grand success to disseminate the information on significance of energy conservation.
The Chief Secretary also unveiled a report on communication strategies for energy efficiency programs in the presence of CEO, APSECM & MD. APGENCO S Naga Lakshmi prepared by A. Chandra Sekhara Reddy, Adviser to BEE & EESL.
Vijayanand added that to support the Chief Minister’s vision of ensuring 24x7 quality power supply at global standards, the Energy Department is prioritsing the integration of modern technologies with continued support from the Union Government—an effort that will also contribute significantly to India’s goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070.
APSECM CEO S Naga Lakshmi highlighted that this year’s NECW will see intensified efforts to involve maximum stakeholders, especially students and women, in coordination with district administrations and DISCOMs. Further strengthening its clean energy roadmap, the State has entered into six major MoUs altogether with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Government of India joint venture under the Ministry of Power. Three MoUs were exchanged in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu & Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Development Manohar Lal. Separately during the CII Partnership Summit held last month in Visakhapatnam. Three MoU’s have been entered. These MoUs aim to accelerate the deployment of advanced energy efficiency and conservation (EE&C) technologies across various sectors.
The six MoUs span critical sectors including Housing under PMAY, tourism, urban development, MSMEs, anganwadis and the “Vurjaveer” initiative. All concerned departments have already begun concrete steps to operationalize these agreements.
