AP Govt nod to Chinta Green Energy to enhance capacity of Koppolu PSP to 2400 MW
Andhra Pradesh Government has issued orders approving enhancement of capacity of Koppolu Pumped Storage Power (PSP) project from 360 MW to 2400 MW at a cost of Rs.15,050 in Kondapuram mandal in YSR district to M/s. Chinta Green Energy Pvt. Ltd under the AP Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024.

Earlier, Chinta Green Energy Private Limited vide letter 22.07.2025 had sought approvals for increasing capacity of Koppolu PSP project from 360 MW to 2400 MW, utilization of Gandikota Reservoir as the lower reservoir., water allocation of 38.00 MCM for initial filling for operational requirements of the proposed PSP and 2.79 MCM of water on annual basis towards evaporation losses from Gandikota Reservoir..
NREDCAP, Tadepalli,subsequently stated that taking into consideration the technical and financial strengths of Chinta Green Energy Private Limited and also the feasibility studies conducted, the government should consider enhancement of Koppolu PSP capacity and allocation of water of 38.00 MCM for initial filling and 2.79 MCM of water on annual basis towards evaporation losses from Gandikota Reservoir, under AP Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024.
Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, in an order issued on September 11, stated that the proposal of Chinta Green Energy Private Limited was placed before the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting held on August 28. The SIPB gave its stamp of approval for the same.
Officials said the revenue/concerned department will consider allotment of land subject to availability in the project boundary to the developer on alienation basis for lease up to a maximum 33 years and further extendable at the later stage including the construction period. The land lease rate for revenue/ government/private/patta land will be Rs.31 per acre per year with 5% escalation for every two years for clean energy projects.
Given the nature and long gestation period of PSP projects, the developer shall also be permitted for outright purchase of revenue/government land at the rate of Rs.5 lakh per acre or basic value, whichever is higher. The land allotment shall be done as per the existing Andhra Pradesh Land Allotment Policy 2012 or any other GoAP directions and its amendments from time to time.
The Clean Energy Policy focuses on the creation of a green economy and thriving ecosystem for Integrated Clean Energy across the value chain, through a robust framework to attract investments, thereby contributing to India’s Renewable Energy growth and driving action in mitigating climate change.
To achieve and lead the country’s goals of net zero, the State Government has formulated “Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2024” for attracting clean energy investments and notified vide G.O.Ms.No.37, Energy (Power-II) Department, Dt.30.10.2024.
The policy aims to add over 160 GW of renewable energy capacity, with a potential to attract investments worth Rs.10,00,000 crore, thereby generating an estimated employment for 7,50,000, both direct and indirect. The policy is expected to propel Andhra Pradesh to become a clean energy hub and contribute towards self economic reliance. Under the policy, it is proposed to encourage both large scale and decentralised renewable energy generation in the State.
