Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said as part of the Har Ghar Jal programme, the State Government is working with the aim of providing safe drinking water to every village and every house by 2028.

He said under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, the target of drinking water tap for every household in the State will be realized by 2028.

He was speaking at a videoconferencing with Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil from the Secretariat. Naidu stated that AP Government is giving utmost priority to the operation and maintenance of the rural drinking water supply system. He said a comprehensive policy was unveiled in this regard in September, 2025.

He said that the management of the drinking water supply system has been entrusted to the panchayats. The Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Union Cabinet's decision to continue the Jal Jeevan Mission till 2028.

He urged Patil to extend full support to complete the first phase work of Polavaram project before the Godavari Pushkaralu.

Naidu said in the first phase under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the State has given connections to 16 crore households and explained that the responsibility to conduct water quality checks has been entrusted to DWCRA groups.

He said that they have given permission for Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 as per the guidelines spelt out by the Centre. Later Patil thanked the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister for contacting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the matter and proposing the extension of this mission.
