AP pledges full support for Clean Mobility Transition Movement

Vijayawada: Recognising that combating climate change is not just a global necessity but a historic call for action, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has announced its full support to the Union Government’s Clean Mobility Transition Movement, which aims to simultaneously boost the economy and protect the environment.
As part of Andhra Pradesh’s proactive measures, the Transport Department and APSRTC, in coordination with the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation (NREDCAP) as the nodal agency, have outlined key strategic actions such as establishing one charging station every 30 km along designated green corridors, setting up over 100 incubation centers to promote e-mobility startups, allocating a Rs500 crore corpus fund to develop e-mobility cities, developing value-added manufacturing facilities and an integrated EV value chain within the State.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the Transport Department to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for energy efficiency and 100 per cent electrification of the APSRTC fleet under the State’s E-Mobility Policy.
This landmark initiative is set to position Andhra Pradesh as a frontrunner in clean transport across India, while contributing meaningfully to the global fight against climate change and safeguarding the interests of future generations.
Disclosing this, Special Chief Secretary (Transport, Roads & Buildings) MT Krishna Babu laid stress on the importance of engaging all stakeholders—both at the State and national level—in this transformative movement. He urged premier organisations of the Union
Government such as the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), and its wholly owned subsidiary Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), under the Ministry of Power, actively support Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious E-Mobility initiative.
Krishna Babu, who released a report on the impact of energy efficiency to address climate change and reducing electricity bills EESL National Advisor on Government Affairs and Media A. Chandra Sekhara Reddy called on him at Amaravati, had initiated solar power production during his stint as Chairperson of Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) to meet its requirement.
Reddy, along with officers from the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), praised Krishna Babu, for successfully leading the solarization and energy efficiency initiatives at VPA with CESL’s support—an effort now seen as a model for other ports across the country.
During the meeting, Krishna Babu reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to leverage the Prime Minister’s prestigious E-Drive Scheme, which has a nationwide outlay of Rs10,900 crore, as part of its broader climate action strategy.
Commending CESL for aggregating and deploying over 33,000 electric buses across multiple states, the Special Chief Secretary urged the organization to undertake extensive capacity-building programs to sensitize and mobilize stakeholders towards pro-environmental initiatives. He also welcomed CESL’s Hydrogen Mobility Action Plan, which reinforces India’s commitment to sustainable economic growthand climate responsibility.
