Amaravati: Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand on Thursday said that efforts are being made to make Andhra Pradesh a green hydrogen hub.

He was speaking at the first meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Green Hydrogen Valley Advisory Board which was held at the AP Secretariat. In this meeting, the advisory committee discussed the steps being taken by the government for the production of green hydrogen in AP, the projects undertaken in this regard and other issues.

In particular, with the aim of making AP a leader in India in the production of green hydrogen by 2030, the AP Green Hydrogen Valley Declaration was announced and a special advisory committee was formed.

The aim is to create a manufacturing capacity of 2 gigawatts of electrolyzer by 2027 and to produce about 1.5 million metric tons (MMTPA) of green hydrogen by 2029.

Vijayanand explained that there are flourishing opportunities for solar, wind and pumped energy storage in AP. Similarly, 974 km having a long coastline is also a good opportunity for green hydrogen production. He said that a pumped storage plant with a capacity of one gigawatt has already been set up in Kurnool. A hydrogen hub is being created at “Pudimadaka” near Visakhapatnam by NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL).

He said that efforts are being made to produce about 1,500 tons of “green hydrogen” per day with a renewable energy capacity of 20 GW with an investment of Rs. 1.85 lakh crore.

Vijayanand said that AP will be more recognized as a State with abundant renewable energy resources.
