AP being developed into a green hydrogen hub: CS Vijayanand
Andhra Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a green hydrogen hub, driven by proactive policies and large-scale renewable investments, says CS Vijayanand. The State’s focus on clean energy, infrastructure, and global partnerships is positioning it as a key player in India’s energy transition.
AP being developed into a green hydrogen hub: CS Vijayanand

Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand on Thursday said that efforts are being made to make Andhra Pradesh a green hydrogen hub.
He was speaking at the
the first meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Green Hydrogen Valley Advisory Board which was held at the AP Secretariat. In this meeting, the advisory committee discussed the steps being taken by the government for the production of green hydrogen in AP, the projects undertaken in this regard and other issues.
In particular, with the aim of making AP a leader in India in the production of green hydrogen by 2030, the AP Green Hydrogen Valley Declaration was announced and a special advisory committee was formed.
The aim is to create a manufacturing capacity of 2 gigawatts of electrolyzer by 2027 and to produce about 1.5 million metric tons (MMTPA) of green hydrogen by 2029.
Vijayanand explained that there are flourishing opportunities for solar, wind and pumped energy storage in AP.
Similarly, 974 km having a long coastline is also a good opportunity for green hydrogen production. He said that a pumped storage plant with a capacity of one gigawatt has already been set up in Kurnool. A hydrogen hub is being created at “Pudimadaka” near Visakhapatnam by NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL).
He said that efforts are being made to produce about 1,500 tons of “green hydrogen” per day with a renewable energy capacity of 20 GW with an investment of Rs. 1.85 lakh crore.
Vijayanand said that AP will be more recognized as a State with abundant renewable energy resources.
Speaking on this occasion, NITI Aayog member and AP Green Hydrogen Valley Advisory Board Chairman Dr. VK Saraswat said that AP is at the first place in the country in terms of biomass.
He said that biomass is very useful for the production of green hydrogen, which will increase the income of farmers and also increase employment opportunities.
AP Green Co-AGM Dr. Ram Kumar said that the NPCL fertilizer factory in Kakinada has been converted into a 1 million tonne ammonia plant.Similarly, efforts are being made to make Kakinada a green hydrogen hub.He said that some MoUs related to green hydrogen production will be signed at the CII conference to be held in Visakhapatnam on 14th and 15th of this month.
Earlier, Member-Secretary Prof. D. Narayana Rao explained the opportunities for green hydrogen fuel production through a power point presentation about the AP Green Hydrogen Valley Declaration and its roadmap (2025-29).
Advisory Board members Dr. R. K. Malhotra, Dr. Ashish Lele, Sujith Pillai, J. K. Srivastava and others made various suggestions on the steps to be taken for the production of hydrogen fuel.
New Renewable Energy Development Corporation of AP (NERDCAP) VC and MD Dr. Kamalakar Babu, State I&I Secretary Dr. N. Yuvraj, D. M. R. Panda and others participated.
