AP Moves Forward with Ambitious Infra Projects Worth Over ₹1.5 Lakh Crore Across Multiple Districts; CM directs Logistics sector to be given priority
Multiple aerospace manufacturing and shipbuilding clusters planned across districts with investments exceeding ₹30,000 crore
Principal Secretary, Infrastructure and Investment Department MT Krishna Babu has presented a comprehensive overview of major infrastructure projects and investment proposals at the 5th Collectors' Conference here.
He outlined the progress of 30 MoUs signed during the CII Partnership Summit, spanning ports, maritime infrastructure, aviation, and logistics sectors across the State.
The Principal Secretary informed that the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) has signed 20 MoUs with varying investment ranges. Of these, 7 proposals fall in the 0-1,000 crore range, 8 proposals are in the ₹1,001-5,000 crore category, 2 proposals are valued between ₹5,001-10,000 crore, and 3 major proposals exceed ₹10,000 crore each. Currently, 6 proposals are at the SIPC/RFP publishing stage, while 14 have progressed to subsequent implementation stages.
The Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL) has signed 10 MoUs covering aerospace manufacturing, aviation infrastructure, and flight training facilities. Five proposals are in the ₹501-1,000 crore range, while others span from smaller investments to those exceeding ₹10,000 crore.
Krishna Babu highlighted several landmark projects in coastal districts. In Srikakulam, the Mulapeta Port will be developed with a target capacity of 100 MMTPA and 1 million TEUs by FY32, with long-term potential to evolve into a 300 MMTPA mega port by 2047. A 1,000-acre mega shipbuilding, ship repair, and ancillary manufacturing cluster will be established near Mulapeta Port, with RFP to be floated within 2 weeks. Additionally, a 400-acre multi-modal logistics park with planned cargo handling capacity of 35-50 MMTPA is being developed. The Kakinada-Srikakulam gas pipeline's remaining 150-175 km stretch of the total 290-300 km is in process, though a case is pending in Delhi High Court.
In Vizianagaram, GMR-VIAL will invest ₹20,000 crore in aviation infrastructure development. An exhibition cum convention center is being established at the upcoming Bhogapuram Aerocity.
For Visakhapatnam, plans include expanding Gangavaram Port from 64 to 100 MMTPA by 2032, with container capacity increasing from 0.6 to 1 million TEUs. The State is working to attract 4-5 cruise liners to add Visakhapatnam to their itineraries and plans to start static and short-duration cruises with onboard dining and cultural shows.
Maritime skill development initiatives are being pursued through ISTC and IMU Visakhapatnam, with CEMS Visakhapatnam facility to be initiated.
In Anakapalli, a 400-acre multi-modal logistics park with 35-50 MMTPA cargo handling capacity is under DPR preparation. AMNS will establish a captive port with ₹4,735 crore investment, currently awaiting security clearance and land survey. NTPC's captive port project worth approximately ₹1,000 crore has DPR in progress.
The Pudimadaka fishing harbour construction worth ₹393 crore will soon have tenders called.
Kakinada is set to become a major energy and logistics hub. Crown LNG will establish an ₹11,000 crore LNG terminal, while AM Green (India) Pvt Limited will develop a captive terminal/jetty in 75 acres with ₹1,960 crore investment.
An RLNG terminal with 20-30 MMSCMD capacity is under discussion with companies. Kakinada Deep Water Port expansion from 26 to 63 MMTPA is planned, along with development of the 16 MMTPA Kakinada Gateway Port.
The Uppada fishing harbour construction worth ₹361 crore is in progress with completion targeted by March 2026. River cruise tourism will be initiated with 6-12 hour hop-on-hop-off services.
In Krishna district, a shipbuilding and ship repair facility worth ₹7,600 crore will be established, with RFP to be floated in 2 weeks. A 200-acre shipbuilding cluster with ₹1,500 crore investment will also have its RFP released within 2 weeks.
Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district will host multiple major projects including naval shipbuilding (₹45 crore, GO issued), a railway cargo terminal (₹1,615 crore, GO issued), and terminal development operations in 150 acres (₹2,500 crore). Plans include establishing a Green Industrial City at Durgarajapatnam Port Area spanning 500 acres with ₹5,000 crore investment and a 140-acre shipbuilding cluster worth ₹3,000 crore.
Krishna Babu said the aviation and aerospace sector will see significant development across interior districts. In Sri Sathya Sai district, three major aerospace manufacturing units totaling ₹2,699 crore are planned. Ananthapuramu will host flight training facilities (₹600 crore) and aerospace manufacturing (₹330 crore). Kurnool will see Carbonatik Aero Holdings invest ₹7,100 crore in aviation infrastructure, along with multiple flight training and MRO facilities. Palnadu district will also receive aerospace manufacturing investment of ₹633 crore.
The Principal Secretary also highlighted plans to establish a dedicated State/regional MICE promotion bureau to attract and streamline large-scale MICE tourism events. The State has a MICE Tourism Policy in place and will implement the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) in Andhra Pradesh.
Krishna Babu emphasized the need for district administrations to expedite land identification, survey completion, and clearances to ensure timely implementation of these landmark projects that will transform Andhra Pradesh into a major infrastructure and industrial hub.
