The Andhra Pradesh government has announced the launch of India’s first dedicated Artificial Intelligence University in Amaravati, in collaboration with NVIDIA. The institution will begin operations in February 2026, alongside a statewide rollout of AI-powered tools for public servants.

In a major step toward positioning Andhra Pradesh as a national leader in emerging technologies, the State government has announced the establishment of India’s first dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) University in Amaravati. The initiative will be developed in partnership with global technology leader NVIDIA and is scheduled to commence operations on February 19, 2026.

The announcement was made by A.P. Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) Department Secretary Katamaneni Bhaskhar during the TechBharat “AI for Public Good” summit held at GITAM Deemed-to-be University. Addressing students, faculty, and industry participants, he underlined the State’s vision to integrate advanced AI capabilities into education, governance, and public services.

The proposed AI University is expected to become a specialized institution focused exclusively on artificial intelligence and related disciplines. It will aim to develop skilled talent, drive research, and foster innovation in areas such as machine learning, data science, robotics, computer vision, and generative AI. By collaborating with NVIDIA, the State hopes to leverage world-class expertise in AI hardware, software platforms, and research ecosystems.

Officials believe the university will serve as a hub for academic excellence, industry partnerships, and startup incubation, strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s technology ecosystem. It is also expected to attract students, researchers, and global companies, contributing to job creation and economic growth in the region.

During the summit, Mr. Bhaskhar also distributed fellowships to students, emphasizing the government’s commitment to nurturing young talent in cutting-edge technologies. He noted that AI will play a transformative role across sectors, from healthcare and education to agriculture and governance, and that the State is preparing its workforce to adapt to this shift.

In addition to the university initiative, the government unveiled a pioneering digital governance project aimed at modernizing administrative processes. Andhra Pradesh plans to provide an AI agent for every public servant through an AI-powered workspace called “Agent Space,” to be implemented by the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS). This is being described as a first-of-its-kind initiative in India.

The AI agents are intended to support government officials in tasks such as data analysis, document processing, decision support, and citizen service management. By automating routine processes and enabling data-driven insights, the system aims to improve productivity, transparency, and the speed of service delivery across departments.

The dual focus on higher education and governance reform signals a broader strategy to embed artificial intelligence into the State’s development model. By investing in institutional capacity and digital infrastructure, Andhra Pradesh seeks to establish itself as a pioneer in the use of AI for public good.

With the AI University set to open its doors in early 2026 and the rollout of AI-powered administrative tools underway, the State is positioning itself at the forefront of India’s digital transformation journey.
