Amazon has executed the biggest layoffs in the tech world up to now, dismissing 14,000 employees or more across the nation. Among those affected, nearly 6,000 employees in the engineering field were laid off, which included New York, New Jersey, California, and Washington being important sites for the cuts.

However, Amazon is still set to achieve the highest profits ever made in the current financial year despite these layoffs. The analysts also drew a connection between the two aspects since the company has been incurring very high costs in terms of employee salaries thus indicating that tech companies are struggling with managing their workers' population.

According to the CNBC Analysis report, the layoffs at Amazon are part of a much larger scenario where more than 113,000 workers have been cut off in the US tech sector this year alone with 230 companies involved including those in Silicon Valley.

Engineer positions were the most affected and represented the largest share of the cuts during the time of the lay-offs. However, this is based on the WARN data which states that some jurisdictions do not report or follow up on their lay-offs and therefore, the number might be a lot higher.

The Amazon Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Andy Jassy characterized the layoffs as an aspect of a "cultural reset" that would keep the company competitive throughout the rapid technological changes. The Amazon company gave a detailed account of the situation in the following statement:

"We are aware some people might question our decision to reduce positions at this time when the company's performance is good. All our businesses continue to maintain strong customer satisfactions, innovate at a fast pace and achieve good results. Nevertheless, the world is changing very fast. In fact, the current generation of AI is the most revolutionary technology after the Internet, enabling companies to be present in more markets than ever before and also to procure they new ones by moving their innovation faster."

Jassy underlined that the layoffs are meant not to reduce costs immediately but rather to change the company's structure to one that will last in harmony with its long-term goals.

The Amazon job cuts are not isolated incidents but rather a part of a bigger trend in the technology sector where job cuts amount to over one million by 2025. Analysts insist that these dismissals point the right way to prioritize AI and automation as firms shift to quality and faster product development cycles.

By being in the vanguard of tech advancements, Amazon's actions are interpreted as a reallocation of engineers and operations workers. The technology experts admit that layoffs are indeed suffering but at the same time they could open the door to the future technology areas’ expansion, especially the startups.
