Authorities confirmed Thursday morning that the Amarnath Yatra 2025 was halted on July 17 due to intense rains that continued throughout the Kashmir Valley, raising safety concerns and compelling them to stop pilgrims from leaving the Jammu base camp.

A day after a terrible landslip on the Baltal route in the Ganderbal area killed a female pilgrim and injured three more, the suspension was imposed.

Weather-Related Suspension and Landslip Disaster

Vijay Kumar Bhiduri, the Kashmir Divisional Commissioner, stated that the yatra from the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps was halted because of the deteriorated roads brought on by the 36-hour rains and the continuous bad weather.

The Sri Amarnathji Yatra has been halted between Pahalgam and Baltal for July 17, 2025. "The tracks need to be restored immediately due to the heavy rainfall," Bhiduri stated.

A two-day weather forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of further rain in Jammu and Kashmir, notably along the main pilgrimage routes.

Safely Escorted Pilgrims from Panjtarni Camp

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) staff and Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) were in charge of escorting pilgrims who were stuck at the Panjtarni camp on Tuesday night to Baltal, according to authorities.

For pilgrims to descend safely, there has been an adequate deployment of BRO. Work on restoration is in progress," Bhiduri continued.

🔧 BRO Increases Work on Track Repair

Along the impacted yatra tracks, the BRO has sent more personnel and equipment to perform urgent repairs and debris removal. The safe continuation of the pilgrimage depends on restoration.

📅 When Will the Yatra Go On Again?

Officials are optimistic that, based on how the weather develops over the day, the Amarnath Yatra may resume on Friday, July 18.

Since the yatra's formal start in 2025, this is the first time it has been halted in Jammu.

  • Crucial Figures The 3,880-meter-high shrine has had 2.47 lakh devotees since the yatra started on July 3.

Concerning the 2025 Amarnath Yatra

The thirty-eight-day Amarnath Yatra is expected to end on August 9, 2025. In the holy Amarnath Cave, pilgrims travel to see a naturally occurring ice lingam that is thought to be a representation of Lord Shiva.

Even though the yatra has been suspended today, officials reassure followers that every effort is being made to guarantee safety and get it back underway as soon as feasible.
