Airtel Network Down Across India: Company Issues Statement, Services Begin to Recover
Airtel users across India faced a major outage on Monday, with over 3,600 complaints reported on Downdetector. The company says most issues are being resolved, as #AirtelDown trends online.
Airtel services were disrupted across major Indian cities on Monday, with users reporting issues in calls, signal, and internet connectivity.

On Monday, millions of Airtel customers in India experienced network outages; reports of outages peaked in the evening and then started to wane. At 4:32 pm, Downdetector, a platform that tracks issues in real time, had over 3,600 outage complaints; by 6:40 pm, that number had decreased to less than 400.
After being initially reported in Delhi-NCR, the problems quickly extended to Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Madurai, and a number of other cities in central India. Consumers complained that they couldn't access mobile data, send messages, or make calls.
Airtel's Reaction
Airtel acknowledged the disruption in a statement, saying, "For the past hour or so, our customers from Delhi-NCR have been having some voice calling issues. Our engineers are working to fully resolve this, but a large portion of the problem has already been fixed. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.
Although intermittent complaints continued, many users started receiving notifications that services had been restored by late evening.
Effects Not Just for Airtel
The majority of the outage was experienced by Airtel, but Jio and Vodafone-Idea (Vi) users also reported more disruptions than usual; on Downdetector, the number of complaints peaked at roughly 200 and then decreased to about 130.
Reactions on Social Media
#AirtelDown became popular on X (formerly Twitter) as irate users expressed their worries:
- "Services are not available at all. Calls and messages cannot be placed or received. One user wrote, "This is really inconveniencing me."
- Another person commented: "You're not the only Airtel customer who can't make calls. There appears to be a widespread outage. Don't freak out.
- Citing frequent connectivity problems, some consumers even expressed regret about moving to Airtel.
Outlook
With restoration work underway, Airtel has assured customers that services will return to normal soon. However, Monday’s outage highlights the growing concerns over network reliability in India’s highly competitive telecom sector.
