Over the past two days, several Air India and Air India Express flights have experienced cancellations, emergency returns, and delays due to a combination of operational issues, technical problems, and precautionary measures following a tragic crash in Ahmedabad.
List of Affected Air India Flights
1. Ahmedabad to London (AI-159)
Flight AI-159 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick was cancelled on Tuesday, June 17, due to airspace restrictions and extended aircraft turnaround times. Air India clarified that the cancellation was not due to any technical fault, contrary to initial claims.
2. London to Amritsar (AI-170)
As a consequence of the Ahmedabad cancellation, the return flight AI-170 from London Gatwick to Amritsar was also cancelled.
3. Delhi to Paris (AI-143)
The AI-143 service from Delhi to Paris was grounded on Tuesday after issues were found during routine pre-flight checks. The airline is addressing the problem, and the return leg, AI-142 from Paris to Delhi, was also cancelled.
4. Hong Kong to Delhi (AI-315)
On June 16, flight AI-315 operating from Hong Kong to Delhi had to return to Hong Kong within an hour of departure due to a technical issue. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner landed safely and is currently undergoing thorough inspections. Passengers will be rebooked as soon as possible.
5. San Francisco to Mumbai (via Kolkata)
This long-haul Air India flight was cut short and terminated in Kolkata after one of the engines developed a technical snag. All passengers were safely deplaned.
6. Mumbai to Ahmedabad (AI-2493)
Flight AI-2493 was cancelled due to operational delays that led to the expiration of the crew’s duty hours.
7. Delhi to Ranchi (Air India Express)
An Air India Express flight bound for Ranchi returned to Delhi mid-air after a suspected technical issue was detected. After safety checks and clearance, the aircraft resumed operations.
