2,000 runners take part in JITO run for peace

Hyderabad: The second edition of IIFL JITO (Jain International Trade Organisation) ‘Ahimsa Run for Peace and Non-violence,’ was held in the city on Sunday. Vikas Raj, Chief Election Officer flagged off the 2nd edition of the marathon, in which 2,000 runners from the Jain community and outside the community participated. The marathon was organised under three different categories, 3K, 5K and 10K, starting from Jala Vihar towards Sanjeevaiah Park. A total prize money of Rs 90,000 was given away to the winners. The run was simultaneously organised in over 80 locations in India, and more than 20 outside India, wherein over one lakh runners participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Sushil Sancheti, Chairman, Paresh Shah, Chief Secretary, and B L Bhandari, Treasurer of JITO Hyderabad said it was a unique run. “It was a marathon with a difference, one purpose, one run -- it is run together for Ahimsa and Non-Violence. 2,000 runners participated in the Hyderabad edition,” they said in an official release.

The Election Commissioner utilised the opportunity to create voter awareness about forthcoming elections. Vikas Raj urged all to go out and vote in the “Indian Festival of Democracy.”

In the 10K run, Naveen stood first in the male, 15 to 35 years category, where he clocked 32.09. Ramesh Chandra stood second with 33.07 and Manvendra Singh came third with 33.21. In the female category (15 to 35 years) Neha stood first with 49.32 timing, Payal Jain stood second with 58. 57, and Dr Sakshi stood third with her timing being 66 minutes 35 seconds.
