Yogita: Selling unique jewellery is their USP

To begin a business which is evergreen and pleases women's eyes is a very challenging task as it requires extreme effort to make the favourite kind of jewellery which women prefer. Yogita Handicrafts has been successful in achieving this aspect since many years. Started in the year 2011, about 10 to 12 years ago, the owners Suraj Kumar, Devendar Kumar and their father Munnalal, faced many hardships in the beginning while starting the government-based business. The owners opened this jewellery shop that fetched them profits and the sales started to look up gradually.

While beginning the business, the owners had approached bank and had taken a loan of about Rs 50,000. They repaid the loan amount in about 2 months. After facing many difficulties the shop finally came to proper shape and started functioning smoothly, wherein the business has been going on well. "I started this jewellery shop business because it is very profitable and sale is also very nice," Devendar Kumar tells Bizz Buzz.

"The jewellery we make is beautiful and unique and the customers can purchase them at a wholesale price. We sell different types of jewellery including necklaces, chains, chokers, black metal jewellery, rings, bangles, long chains and many more, which are priced between Rs 100 and Rs 500," Devendar adds.

Getting lured by the rare and beautiful designs, many customers have been visintng the shop regular and giving a good feedback. "Our monthly savings from this shop amounts to around Rs 25,000," says Devendar.

The owners of Yogita Handicrafts handcraft say, the jewellery which makes their shop special is brought from Jaipur and other neighbouring cities as well. "We make the ornaments at our hometown and sell them here in Hyderabad," says Suraj Kumar.

Though the owners faced some problems in the initial days, the business gained momentum when they understood the kind of styles of jewellery people here liked to wear and handcrafted them with utmost care and attention. Establishing the store was a challenge but the owners gained traction and moved forward in establishing their store successfully.

Advertising the store was not a difficult task because it is a government-based shop. The government took up the responsibility of advertising the store, wherein many people come here regularly to buy the products due to their uniqueness and exquisite designs.

When Covid pandemic broke out, the shop had to be closed due to which huge losses were incurred by the owners. "After we closed our shop, we had to return to our hometown because of which we had to start our business from scratch again. After the situation normalised, it took a while to begin the shop at a normal pace," says Suraj Kumar. Since lot of jewellery got spoilt in between, the owners had to again make them after the shop reopened post pandemic.

Depending on the budget used one can start a business. For example, if an amount of Rs 1 lakh or Rs 2 lakh can be arranged, a bigger business can also be set up. One can apply for a loan. Though it's difficult to get one, one can try hard and apply for a loan, to begin a startup, the owners say based on their experience.
