Sensex and Nifty 50 closed lower with 114 stocks at 52-week highs and 105 at lows on August 12, 2025.

114 stocks reached 52-week highs and 105 stocks reached 52-week lows as the Indian stock market ended Tuesday's trading session lower, despite mixed sector performances.
Market Highlights
The BSE Sensex closed at 80,235, down 368 points (-0.46%), and the Nifty 50 closed at 24,487, down 97 points (-0.40%).
Hitachi Energy India, One 97 Communications, Fortis Healthcare, Nuvoco Vistas Corporation, and Star Cement were among the companies whose stocks reached all-time highs. Bata India, Jindal Saw, Praj Industries, and Protean eGov Technologies were among the companies that saw 52-week lows on the negative side.
Performance of the Sector
Gains in the IT and automotive sectors, led by Maruti Suzuki (+1.93%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (+1.58%), were outweighed by weakness in banking, according to Vaibhav Vidwani, Research Analyst at Bonanza. Part of Monday's 0.9% increase was erased when the Nifty Bank index dropped 0.84%.
Ahead of significant macroeconomic releases, such as the US CPI and India's July CPI inflation data, as well as impending US-Russia diplomatic negotiations that may have an impact on world markets, investor sentiment is still cautious.
Technical Prospects
Senior Technical Research Analyst Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities observed that intraday highs created selling pressure, causing the Nifty to drop from 24,700 to close lower. On the daily chart, a tiny red candle with a long upper shadow appeared, indicating a lack of significant upward momentum.
He added that as long as the 24,300 support holds, bulls may maintain control. Short-term buying is expected from the 24,300–24,400 range, with potential for Nifty to retest resistance at 24,700.
