The NSE and BSE are closed on Wednesday, November 5, in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti for the year 2025. The trading activity is halted across all segments for the day-e.g., equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing, and currency derivatives.
According to the official trading calendar, the holiday is listed under “Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.” Regular trading will resume tomorrow, Thursday, November 6, as the exchanges continue their standard Monday-to-Friday schedule, remaining closed on weekends and declared holidays.
Why the Market is Closed Today
The closure marks the celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab or Prakash Utsav, commemorating the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. The day is observed with prayers, processions, kirtans, and community service across the country. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469 in Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi, now known as Nankana Sahib in Pakistan.
