NSE and BSE will remain closed on Dhanteras and Diwali; Muhurat trading scheduled for 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM on October 21, 2025.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have revealed their respective trading holiday schedules for Dhanteras and Diwali 2025 now that the festive season is upon us so soon.
Diwali Week Stock Market Holidays
Dhanteras, which signifies Goddess Lakshmi's arrival, will be on October 18 (Saturday), the start of the Diwali festival this year. Trading will be closed on Dhanteras because it falls on a Saturday and a weekend market holiday is already in effect.
Dhanteras (October 18, Saturday): Market closed
Sunday (October 19): Weekly holiday
Diwali Laxmi Pujan (October 21, Tuesday): Market closed except for Muhurat Trading
Balipratipada (October 22, Wednesday): Market closed
Regular trading will resume on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Muhurat Trading Session 2025 — Date and Time
As per official circulars from both NSE and BSE, the special Muhurat Trading session will take place on October 21, 2025 (Tuesday).
Pre-Open Session: 1:30 PM – 1:45 PM
Muhurat Trading Session: 1:45 PM – 2:45 PM
This year the Hindu New Year — Vikram Samvat 2082 is going to start with the annual symbolic trading hour held on the day of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. It has been a custom that if one invests during this time, he will be graced with wealth and good luck.
For reference, last year’s Muhurat trading session was held between 6 PM and 7 PM.
MCX Holiday Schedule
The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also observe holidays on October 21 (Diwali Laxmi Pujan) and October 22 (Balipratipada).
However, MCX will open for evening trading on October 22 and will also conduct Muhurat Trading on October 21 — the specific timings will be announced later.
