Indian stock exchanges will remain shut on Friday, April 18, in observance of the Good Friday public holiday. Trading activities will resume on Monday, with market participants focusing on quarterly corporate results, global trends, and institutional flows for further cues.

In Asia, equity benchmarks recorded slight gains during a holiday-trimmed session. Japan’s Nikkei 225 increased by 0.66 per cent, Taiwan’s weighted index rose 0.58 per cent, and South Korea’s KOSPI index advanced 0.27 per cent. Several regional markets, including those in mainland China and Hong Kong, remained closed for holidays.

Ahead of the market break, Indian benchmarks ended Thursday with strong gains. The BSE Sensex closed at 78,553.20, up 1,508.91 points, while the NSE Nifty settled 414.45 points higher at 23,851.65. Banking stocks led the uptick, with the Nifty Private Bank Index recording gains of over 1.3 per cent. The IT sector was the only index in negative territory.

Investor sentiment improved following foreign fund inflows. According to data reported by ANI, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers on Thursday, with total purchases amounting to Rs 18,210.41 crore and sales totaling Rs 13,542.47 crore. This resulted in a net inflow of Rs 4,667.94 crore. Meanwhile, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 2,006.15 crore, marking a net outflow.

Attention has now turned to earnings results from key companies. Scheduled to release their fourth-quarter figures on Friday were Just Dial, Mastek, Network 18 Media & Investments, Laxmi Goldorna House, Amal, Yaari Digital Integrated Services, Teamo Productions, and Jay Kailash Namkeen.

In the global markets, U.S. stock futures offered mixed signals. Dow Jones futures declined by 521 points or 1.32 per cent to 39,148, whereas Nasdaq futures edged up 30 points or 0.17 per cent to 18,287. European indices also traded lower. France's CAC 40 slipped 0.45 per cent, Germany's DAX dropped 0.68 per cent, and the UK’s FTSE 100 declined by 0.42 per cent.

Market participants will assess global developments, earnings disclosures, and institutional activity when trading resumes on April 21.
