BSE and NSE to hold Muhurat Trading on October 21, 2025, from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM; markets closed for Diwali Lakshmi Puja and Balipratipada.

This year, BSE and NSE have to inform the market participants about their Diwali holiday schedule, saying that the market will be closed on October 21 for Diwali Lakshmi Puja and again on October 22 for Balipratipada. The annual Muhurat Trading session on October 21 from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM will be the first activity of Samvat 2082 and will be an occasion for investors to redeem their faithful and hopeful trading spirit year-round.
This year’s Muhurat Trading — a symbolic, auspicious session for investors — will be held in the afternoon, differing from the traditional evening schedule seen in recent years. During this period, trading will be allowed across equities, derivatives, and currency segments.
The session carries tremendous cultural value for the trading community, representing both good fortune and new beginnings in the Hindu New Year. As a ritual, some traders even perform Lakshmi Puja on the trading floor with the intention to receive blessings for wealth and success in the coming year.
After a two-day festive closure, the two major Indian stock exchanges will open up to regular trading hours on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
