The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in observance of Maharashtra Day. As a result, there will be no trading or settlement in stocks, derivatives, or the securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments.

Maharashtra Day marks the formation of the state in 1960, when Maharashtra and Gujarat were separated from the former Bombay State. The holiday also coincides with International Labour Day.

In addition to the stock exchanges, various public institutions in Maharashtra, including banks, government offices, schools, and colleges, will also be closed.

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will observe a holiday in the morning session (9 am to 5 pm). However, evening trading will continue from 5 pm to 11:55 pm.

Regular trading will resume on Friday, May 2, 2025. May will have only one market holiday, unlike April, which saw three closures. Other key market holidays for 2025 include Independence Day (August 15), Ganesh Chaturthi (August 27), and Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (October 2). The markets will also be closed for Diwali (October 21), Laxmi Pujan (October 21), Diwali Balipratipada (October 22), Prakash Gurpurb (November 5), and Christmas (December 25).
