India remains the best long-term investment bet despite FII outflows

Veteran investor Raamdeo Agrawal believes India continues to be the most promising investment destination for the next decade. Despite recent foreign investor outflows and market volatility, he remains confident that strong economic growth and domestic participation will drive long-term market gains.
Ace investor and Motilal Oswal Financial Services co-founder Raamdeo Agrawal has reaffirmed his bullish outlook on India, saying the country remains the best investment destination for the next 10 years despite ongoing foreign institutional investor (FII) outflows and short-term market volatility.
Speaking about the recent turbulence in Indian equities, Agrawal said market corrections and fluctuations are natural phases of the investment cycle and should not distract investors from the country’s long-term growth story. According to him, India’s strong economic fundamentals and expanding domestic investor base continue to support the market’s structural growth.
Over the past several months, Indian equities have witnessed significant FII selling amid global uncertainties, higher US interest rates, and geopolitical tensions. These factors have triggered volatility in benchmark indices such as the Sensex and Nifty. However, Agrawal noted that foreign investor flows tend to move in cycles and do not define the long-term trajectory of India’s markets.
He emphasised that domestic institutional investors and retail participants are now playing a far more important role in supporting the markets. The steady inflow of funds through systematic investment plans (SIPs) into mutual funds has helped offset the impact of foreign selling.
“India’s growth momentum is intact and the long-term opportunity remains extremely compelling,” Agrawal said, adding that the country’s economic transformation, rising consumption, and expanding middle class will continue to drive corporate earnings and equity returns.
Strong Economic Fundamentals Support Growth
India is currently among the fastest-growing major economies in the world. Government investments in infrastructure, digital transformation, manufacturing expansion, and policy reforms have strengthened the country’s growth outlook.
Agrawal highlighted that India’s corporate earnings cycle is entering a strong phase after years of balance sheet repair by companies. As businesses continue to benefit from improved efficiency and demand growth, profit expansion could support stock market performance over the coming decade.
He also pointed out that the structural shift in savings from physical assets like gold and real estate toward financial assets such as equities and mutual funds is creating a powerful domestic capital base for the markets.
Volatility Creates Opportunity
According to Agrawal, short-term volatility should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a risk for long-term investors. Market corrections often create attractive entry points for quality stocks and sectors poised to benefit from India’s growth story.
He advised investors to stay disciplined and focus on long-term wealth creation rather than reacting to short-term market movements. Historically, Indian equities have delivered strong returns to investors who maintained a long-term perspective.
Agrawal also stressed the importance of investing in companies with strong management, sustainable business models, and the ability to grow earnings consistently over time.
India’s Next Decade of Wealth Creation
Looking ahead, Agrawal believes the next decade could be one of the most significant wealth creation periods for Indian equity investors. Rising entrepreneurship, technological adoption, and expanding domestic demand are expected to drive innovation and business growth across sectors.
While global uncertainties and market fluctuations may continue to influence investor sentiment in the short term, he remains confident that India’s long-term trajectory remains firmly upward.
For investors willing to stay patient and focus on fundamentals, Agrawal believes the Indian market continues to offer one of the most attractive opportunities globally.
