Power sector sparkles in infra space performance

During April-July 2022, the sectors that exceeded the target were power generation, production of refinery, revenue earning goods traffic in Railways and passengers' traffic handled at intl terminals

New Delhi: The infrastructure sectors, which did well in July, were power generation, refinery production, upgrade of highways by National Highways Authority of India (widening/strengthening existing weak pavement to four/six/eight lanes), State Public Works departments, and the Border Road Organization (BRO), revenue earning via goods traffic by Railways and passengers' traffic handled at international terminals.

In all of them, the performance exceeded the target that was set for the month, official sources told Bizz Buzz. On the other hand, the laggards of the month were coal, fertilizers, crude oil, natural gas, export & import cargo handled at airports, and passengers' traffic handled at domestic terminals. The performance was lower than the target.

During April-July 2022, the sectors that exceeded the target were power generation, production of refinery, revenue earning goods traffic in railways and passengers' traffic handled at international. Highway upgrade, while excelling in July, highway upgrade underperformed in the first four months of this fiscal, failing to meet the target. During this period, coal, fertilizers, crude oil & natural gas, export & import of cargo handled at airports, and passengers' traffic handled at domestic terminals missed lower than the target.

In comparison with July 2021, power generation, coal, finished steel, cement, fertilizers, refinery, highway upgrade, revenue earning goods traffic in railways, cargo & coal handled at major ports, import cargo handled at airports and passengers' traffic handled at international & domestic terminals did better July this year. But crude oil, natural gas, highway upgrade by states and the BRO, export cargo handled at airports and telecom connections slipped in July this year.

Power generation, coal, finished steel, cement, fertilizers, refinery, natural gas, NHAI highway upgrade, revenue earning goods traffic in Railways, cargo & coal handled at major ports, passenger traffic handled at domestic and international terminals were higher in July-April 2022 than the corresponding period of the last fiscal.

Crude oil, highway upgrade by states PWD and the BRO, export & import cargo handled at airports and telecom decline in April-July 2022, as compared to the corresponding period of the last year.
