Indian equity benchmarks traded sharply lower in Friday’s noon session amid weak global cues and selling pressure in realty stocks, even as select stocks like Tejas Networks and Netweb Technologies attracted strong buying interest.
Indian benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY50 were under pressure during the afternoon trade on Friday, February 27, tracking subdued global markets and continued selling in rate-sensitive sectors.
The Sensex slipped as much as 653 points to an intraday low of 81,595.96, while the Nifty50 breached the 25,350 mark, touching a session low of 25,270.05. At around 12:47 PM, the Sensex was down 617.56 points, or 0.75%, at 81,631.05, and the Nifty50 declined 215.30 points, or 0.84%, to 25,281.25.
Market sentiment remained cautious despite supportive domestic flows. On Thursday, foreign institutional investors sold equities worth ₹3,465.99 crore, while domestic institutional investors bought shares worth ₹5,031.57 crore on a net basis.
Among index heavyweights, Bharti Airtel led the losses, falling 2.68%. Other notable laggards included Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Grasim Industries, InterGlobe Aviation, and Nestle India.
On the upside, selective buying was seen in Infosys, HCL Technologies, Trent, and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise.

Shares of Tejas Networks jumped nearly 16% to an intraday high of ₹429.45 for the second straight session after the company announced a manufacturing and supply agreement with NEC Corporation for 5G massive MIMO radios.
