ISRO’s world space week focuses on space career awareness
Technical lectures, interactions with ISRO scientists/personalities and video lectures are being organised during October 5 to 8
Visakhapatnam: After India’s Chandrayaan-3’s phenomenal success and the moon lander firmly set its foot on the moon, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is focusing its efforts to expedite the launch of test vehicle as part of Gaganyaan, the human space flight project and other ambitious missions.
The wide applaud to India’s trend-setting success from Sriharikota range of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC, also known as SHAR), the rocket launch centre (spaceport) operated by ISRO at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh has further motivated the Indian space scientists to celebrate the World Space Week beginning October 4 at multiple locations to create awareness on a scientific career and investment opportunities by startups and others in the space domain.
“This time we are celebrating the week by holding audio-visual shows and exhibitions on our missions and conducting competitions among students and others to create awareness on our activities and future missions,” SHAR Senior Scientist G Appanna said here on Wednesday.
Chandrayaan-3 became a roaring success in sending vital information as a follow-up initiative mission to Chandrayaan-2 to prove end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface.
He said the timeline for the launch of test vehicles for Gaganayaan-the first of two unmanned missions ahead of manned Gaganyaan mission will be notified at an appropriate time. Now preparations are going on in full swing and their hands are full with several projects keeping in view the short and long-term plans of ISRO.
According to reports, ISRO also has plans to launch XpoSat dedicated polarimetry mission to study dynamics of bright astronomical X-ray sources in extreme conditions, INSAT-3DS climate observation satellites and NISAR being developed by ISRO and NASA for a low earth orbit observatory.
Appanna said World Space Week Association has chosen the theme ‘Space and Entrepreneurship’ for this year.
As many as 70 countries are celebrating the week every year to enthuse the international community towards more and more applications of space technology for the mankind.
SHAR, Sriharikota, the famed spaceport of India, he said, is one of the lead centres under the ISRO is celebrating the week with a gamut of public outreach programmes by spreading the activities to local populace in association with Raghu Engineering College in Visakhapatnam with a ‘space walk’ on the beach road on Thursday. Technical lectures, interactions with ISRO scientists/personalities and video lectures are being organised during October 5 to 8. Similar programmes are also being held at Kurnool, Rajamahendravaram, Sriharikota-Sullurpeta-Tirupati.
