Gold gains, silver declines

New Delhi: Gold in the national capital on Tuesday gained Rs 45 to Rs 46,213 per 10 gram. In the previous trade, the precious metal had closed at Rs 46,168 per 10 grams. Silver declined marginally by Rs 86 to Rs 66,389 per kilogram from Rs 66,475 per kilogram in the previous trade. "Spot gold prices for 24 carats in Delhi were up by Rs 45 reflecting an overnight recovery in COMEX gold prices and rupee depreciation," according to Tapan Patel, senior analyst (commodities) at HDFC Securities.

In the international market, gold was trading marginally lower at $1,778 per ounce and silver was flat at $25.84 per ounce. "Gold prices traded marginally down with spot gold prices at COMEX trading at $1,778 per ounce on Tuesday," Patel added.

Gold futures fall on easing speculation

Gold prices fell Rs 94 to Rs 46,980 per 10 gram in the futures trade on MCX as speculators reduced their positions amid low demand.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold contracts for the August delivery traded lower by Rs 94, or 0.2 per cent, to Rs 46,980 per 10 gram in a business turnover of 10,734 lots. Analysts attributed the fall in gold prices to trimming of positions by participants. Globally, gold traded 0.18 per cent lower at $1,779.70 an ounce in New York.
