Former Cricketer Sourav Ganguly Backs Food Delivery Startup JustMyRoots in Latest Investment

Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly has made an undisclosed investment to acquire a minority stake in the food delivery startup JustMyRoots. Ganguly has also signed an endorsement agreement with the company. Founded in 2016 by Samiran Sengupta, Rajan Sachdeva, and Promita Sengupta, JustMyRoots initially focused on intercity food delivery services. However, it now plans to expand its offerings by launching intra-city food delivery services and developing in-house packaging solutions. The startup is currently in discussions with various investors to raise INR 120 crore to INR 150 crore for this expansion.

Ganguly expressed his rationale for the investment, stating that he personally prefers ordering food and eating at home due to long working hours and the convenience it offers. He also mentioned his interest in investing in startups, with stakes in four businesses, including JustMyRoots. The startup aims to differentiate itself in the market by utilizing a hot chain supply solution to keep food hot for up to 4 to 5 hours and a cold chain to preserve food for at least 72 hours. These innovative solutions have been developed by JustMyRoots' subsidiary, Acaya, and the startup has applied for a patent. Furthermore, the company plans to offer these solutions to other sectors as well.

The involvement of cricketers in endorsing or investing in startups is not uncommon in India. In recent examples, cricketer Shikhar Dhawan invested in D2C food startup TagZ and became its brand ambassador. Similarly, Hardik Pandya invested in the D2C food startup Yu and also endorsed the brand. Notable cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble have also made investments in various Indian startups.

With Ganguly's investment and endorsement, JustMyRoots aims to leverage his stature and support to further its growth in the competitive food delivery market. The startup's expansion plans and innovative packaging solutions position it for potential success in meeting the evolving demands of customers seeking convenient and high-quality food delivery services.
