Common Man's Agony: State-backed Oil Marketing Companies Hike Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices

In a blow to the common man, state-backed oil marketing companies have once again raised the prices of commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 7 per cylinder. This comes as a disappointment following the significant price cuts of Rs 83.5 that were implemented in June. Unfortunately, there has been no respite for domestic LPG cylinder prices, which have remained unchanged.

The recent increase in prices has pushed up the cost of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders from Rs 1,773 to Rs 1,780 per cylinder in Delhi. These cylinders are primarily used for industrial and commercial purposes, alongside the larger variants of 47.5 kg and 425 kg. On the other hand, the smaller 5 kg and 14.2 kg LPG cylinders, which are commonly used for domestic purposes and account for a significant portion of gas consumption, have not experienced any price adjustments.

It is disheartening to note that LPG cylinder rates are regularly revised on the first day of each month. Despite witnessing consecutive price cuts in April, May, and June, the recent increase in July has dashed the hopes of consumers. Previously, a 19 kg LPG cylinder was priced at Rs 1,773 in Delhi, Rs 1,725 in Mumbai, Rs 1,875.50 in Kolkata, and Rs 1,937 in Chennai.

This price volatility has left the common man reeling, as they struggle to cope with the ever-changing costs of essential commodities. The frequent fluctuations have created uncertainty and financial strain for individuals and businesses alike. Unfortunately, these price hikes come on the heels of previous increases in March, when LPG cylinder prices surged by Rs 50 per cylinder.

While some relief was provided through subsequent reductions in April (Rs 91.50), May (Rs 171.50), and June (Rs 83.50), the recent increase in July has nullified any respite that consumers may have enjoyed. Regrettably, domestic LPG cylinder prices have remained stagnant since March, with a 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi priced at Rs 1,103, and higher rates observed in Kolkata (Rs 1,129), Mumbai (Rs 1,102.50), and Chennai (Rs 1,118.50).

The common man continues to face the burden of escalating prices, with no relief in sight for domestic LPG cylinders. As essential commodities become increasingly unaffordable, individuals and households struggle to manage their budgets amidst these challenging times. The need for stability and consistent pricing policies has become more crucial than ever, to ease the financial burden on the common man and ensure their well-being.
