Caravan tourism gets Rs 20-cr boost in AP

Visakhapatnam: In a first of its kind, the tour and travel operators of Andhra Pradesh have come forward to popularise caravan tourism across the State.

Following encouraging response from the mandarins of Tourism Department, the

Tours and Travels Association of Andhra (TTAS) has decided to invest through its members on caravan tourism and locate them in Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram Vijayawada and Tirupati areas.

They will also be investing in hop on and hop off buses and heritage rickshaws for promoting the heritage circuits to replicate successful model in Delhi.

TTAA president K Vijay Mohan signed a MoU with the Government of AP in the presence of Tourism Minister R K Roja, Special Chief Secretary, Rajat Bhargav, CEO of AP Tourism Authority (APTA) Kanna Babu and Chairman of APTDC Arimanda Vara Prasad Reddy.

The agreement envisaging an investment of Rs 20 crore was signed at the recently held Global Investors’ Summit, Vijay Mohan told Bizz Buzz on Monday.

He said unconventional mode of transportation is really exciting and will certainly attract more domestic and international tourists to Andhra Pradesh. He said besides caravan tourism, hop on and hop off buses and heritage rickshaws are going to become a big hit once they are launched.

Among those present at the MoU signing were Srinivas Kumar Padhi, secretary of TTAA and Chalapathi Rao Ravi, a local travel operator.
