The trading data for April 8, 2025, is out, showing a significant contrast in market behavior between Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) and Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs). While FIIs continued heavy selling, DIIs went the opposite route, showing strong buying interest.

FIIs Continue Selling Spree

According to the NSE website, Foreign Institutional Investors sold aggressively in the Indian markets today. FIIs made purchases worth ₹13,687.62 crore but sold stocks worth ₹18,681.86 crore. This resulted in a net sell-off of ₹4,994.24 crore. These figures suggest that FIIs may be booking profits or adjusting their portfolios in response to global indicators.

DIIs Remain Confident in Indian Markets

On the other hand, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) displayed strong confidence in the Indian stock market. DIIs bought shares worth ₹14,363.74 crore while selling only ₹11,266.50 crore. This led to a net purchase of ₹3,097.24 crore, clearly indicating that domestic investors continue to see value in current market levels.

March 2025: A Mixed Bag for FIIs

Despite global market volatility triggered by U.S. President Trump’s trade policies, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) showed confidence in Indian markets, investing close to $1.7 billion (approx. ₹14,000 crore) during March 2025.

The financial services sector emerged as a favorite among foreign investors, attracting about $2 billion (₹16,500 crore) in the latter half of the month. However, in early March, the same sector witnessed outflows of around $380 million.
