The stock market has a thrilling side to it, yet it still remains very much a gamble. Multiple reasons on the other hand, lead to continuous ups and downs of prices, and stocks have the risk of causing huge losses too whereas they have the potential of bringing huge profits. Hence, to have no knowledge of the stock market when entering could be an extremely expensive mistake.

An Initial Public Offering (IPO) is one of the ways which is less risky and may give the investor a chance to make a profit as the company lists its shares. To get funds, the company goes public and sells its shares to investors, thus making them public. The shares are sold at a fixed price, and if the allotment is successful, the investors are often given a chance to earn profits. In the past years, IPOs from top companies have continuously been a major attraction and have received high responses from the investors.

Well, here’s the good news for IPO investors: SBI Mutual Fund is preparing for its IPO. The fund management firm of the country’s largest public sector bank, SBI Funds Management Limited (SBIFML), is expected to go public in the first half of next year. The working is already in progress as the SBI Chairman Challa Srinivasulu Shetty has confirmed that the appointment of merchant bankers and other important service providers will take care of the IPO process, like, determining the fund's net asset value and other things.

SBIFML has been formed as a partnership of SBI (owning a 61.98% stake) and the French-based Amundi (possessing a 36.40% share). The mutual fund company has a portfolio of ₹12 trillion as of September 2025, making it one of the largest players in the Indian assets market.

As part of the deal, SBI and Amundi will be selling a combined 10% stake. Specifically, 6.3% (about 3.2 crore shares) will be offered by SBI and 3.7 crore shares (1.875 crore) will be sold by Amundi, which makes 5.08 crore shares altogether. The aim is to get over ₹10,000 crores from this sale which will make it the biggest IPO for an asset management company in India.

Investors who want to be a part of a high-profile IPO that has the support of strong institutions and the track record of the steady growth, will find SBI Funds Management a very attractive opportunity.
