IPL 2024 UAE matches venue decision

Due to the timing of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) will be split into two parts, with the first part beginning on March 22. As the first leg gets underway at the Chepauk next Friday, the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face off against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Half of the tournament's fixtures have already been announced by the BCCI; once the polling dates are announced by the Election Commission of India, the remaining schedule will be provided.

IPL 2024 UAE matches possibility

News from The Times of India suggests that similar to what happened in 2014, the United Arab Emirates could host the second stage of the IPL in 2024. According to the report, a few BCCI officials are visiting the UAE who are going to "explore the possibility" of holding the tournament's second half in Dubai.

The report states that “The Election Commission of India will announce the election schedule on Saturday at 3 pm. After that, the BCCI will decide whether IPL matches should be moved to Dubai. Currently, a few top BCCI officials are in Dubai to explore the possibility of organizing the second half of the IPL in Dubai.”

The UAE hosted the IPL for the years 2020 and 2021 before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah were the three locations where the games were held. Rumour has it that some IPL franchises have already taken precautions by collecting their players' passports in case the second phase of the tournament is moved out of India because of the general elections. Nonetheless, BCCI insiders insist that the league will be held exclusively in India.
