Amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, US President Donald Trump has remained tight-lipped on whether military action against Iran is imminent. However, a New York Times report revealed that the US deployed one of its ‘Doomsday planes’ — the E-4B Nightwatch — to St. Andrew’s Air Force Base in Maryland.

The E-4B Nightwatch is a specialized aircraft operated by the US Air Force, serving as the National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC). Designed to function as a secure airborne command post, it enables top US officials, including the President and the Defense Secretary, to maintain communication and control during emergencies such as nuclear war. The plane can withstand nuclear blasts, cyberattacks, and missile strikes, carry up to 112 crew members, and has a range exceeding 7,000 miles.

The recent flight of the E-4B from Bossier City, Louisiana, to Maryland highlights the seriousness with which the US is approaching the escalating Israel-Iran conflict.

President Trump voiced concern over the rising tensions but did not clarify whether he would authorize a strike on Iran, stating, “I have a plan for everything… anything could happen.” He also expressed regret over Iran’s refusal to accept a deal he previously offered, saying, “They should have made the deal. I had a great deal for them.” Trump hinted at the possibility of future negotiations but stressed the unpredictable nature of the situation.

As the conflict unfolds, the deployment of the ‘Doomsday plane’ signals Washington’s readiness to manage crisis communications at the highest level in an uncertain geopolitical climate.
