Indian passengers seeking illegal entry into the US have been revealed to take a circuitous route via Dubai and Nicaragua, as uncovered by a CID investigation. According to CID Crime officials, individuals pay hefty sums ranging from ₹60-70 lakh to immigration agents to facilitate their passage. This revelation came to light following the interrogation of 66 passengers who were aboard a Nicaragua-bound flight that was diverted mid-route due to suspicions of human trafficking.

The modus operandi involves travelers first journeying to Dubai, then proceeding to Nicaragua by air. From Nicaragua, they travel overland to Mexico, ultimately aiming to cross the American border clandestinely. The CID Crime branch received this information from the Foreigners Regional Registration Officers (FRRO) in Mumbai, prompting a deeper investigation into the matter.

The intricate network involved in this illicit operation includes around 10-12 individuals who profit from orchestrating such journeys. These agents promise hopeful migrants passage into the US, exploiting their desperation and charging exorbitant fees for their services.

Dubbed the "donkey route," this method of illegal entry is not uncommon and has previously been employed by individuals seeking entry into countries like the US, Canada, and the UK. The recent incident involving the grounded Nicaragua-bound flight further highlights the prevalence of this illicit activity.

The Airbus A340 carrying 303 passengers, including 260 Indians, was grounded in France for four days over suspicions of human trafficking. Upon its return to Mumbai, investigations revealed that a significant portion of the passengers, particularly from Gujarat, had agreed to pay substantial sums to immigration agents for assistance in crossing into the US illegally.

The CID has identified and questioned several individuals involved in this network, aiming to dismantle the operation and prevent further exploitation of vulnerable individuals seeking a better life abroad.
