The coastal flood advisory was issued by the NWS in effect from 8 AM to 3 PM ET on Thursday, October 9, for Ocean and Burlington counties of New Jersey. It was issued at 5:21 AM on Wednesday. It is warning of minor tidal flooding and possible road closures in low-lying coastal areas.

🌊 What Residents Can Expect

According to NWS, residents could experience water inundation for up to half a foot above ground level at vulnerable locations near tidal waterways and shorelines. Ocean, coastal Ocean, and southeastern Burlington County are said to be the affected areas.

Minor flooding at the roads will be possible in coastal and bayside roads and also near inland tidal waterways, at times leading to partial or complete road closures.

The advisory goes on to warn about "minor coastal flooding may linger on the back bays after high tide," while elevated water levels could drag on into the weekend.

⚠️ What Happens During a Coastal Flood Advisory?

Coastal Flood Advisories are issued for minor tidal flooding that may cover coastal roads and low-lying properties. Such conditions may lead to some amount of road closures and travel inconveniences.

In either of these counties, residents are urged by the NWS to move their vehicles away from flood-prone areas and to refrain from driving through flooding.

Flood waters may be deeper than they look; driving through can be dangerous and cause severe vehicle damage," the advisory warned.

🌦️ Beyond-The-Week Weather Outlook

Beyond coastal flooding, showers and cooler temperatures are expected to strike the eastern U. S. this week according to the NWS.

The cold front is set to rake in rain and thunderstorm from the Northeast to the Southeast; the Southwest, including New Mexico, is facing serious threats of several days of heavy rain and isolated flash flooding starting October 9 due to tropical moisture.

Meanwhile, some sections of Alaska’s Upper Chena River Valley and Chena Hot Springs are facing a winter weather advisory, with a general accumulation of 3–5 inches of snow being anticipated in some regions.
