Since Serena Williams (2011–2014), Sabalenka is the first player to advance to three straight US Open finals.

Aryna Sabalenka, the defending champion, defeated Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 after trailing by a set to advance to her third consecutive US Open final with steely nerves.

The world No. 1's victory makes her the first player since Serena Williams to advance to three consecutive Flushing Meadows finals.

A Hardy Retaliation

Taking advantage of Sabalenka's mistakes and the enthusiasm of the home crowd, fourth seed Pegula appeared intent on turning the tide in a rematch of last year's final after winning the first set.

After a short break off the court, however, Sabalenka recovered and dominated the second set by taking a more clinical stance. She saved four important break points and sealed an early break in the final, then used her signature roar to win on her third match point.

It was a very difficult match. As usual, Jessica's tennis was amazing. After the victory, Sabalenka said, "I had to work really hard and just prayed inside, hoping for the best."

The 2025 Grand Slam Journey of Sabalenka

Sabalenka has yet to win a major title in 2025, despite making it to several finals this year, including the Australian Open and French Open. She also lost in the Wimbledon semifinals because she lost her cool under pressure.

But given that she is now aiming for her fourth Grand Slam singles title, her perseverance in New York points to a more resilient mindset.

In the main event on Saturday, she will play either American Amanda Anisimova or two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka.

This has great significance. I'll fight for every point on Saturday as if it were my last," she continued.

Pegula's Wait Goes On

The pursuit of Jessica Pegula's first Grand Slam victory continues. Despite a strong run, the 31-year-old, who lost to Sabalenka in the previous year's final, failed once more.

Pegula had a disappointing 2025 season, losing shockingly in the first round of Wimbledon and having early exits at other majors. However, her impressive performance at Flushing Meadows, where she eliminated five opponents, including two former Grand Slam winners — signals a welcome return to form.
