The US and Iran declared a cease-fire for two weeks. Now, it is finalised to reopen the Strait of Hormuz on April 7, 2026. It takes place before a deadline set by President Trump. He had threatened to destroy Iran’s “whole civilisation”. This threat was given in case Iran doesn’t offer free water transit.
The Pakistan-mediated deal was claimed as a success by both countries. Donald Trump has shown Iran’s 10-point proposal as a “workable groundwork” for negotiations toward a lasting peace. Moreover, weeks are spent on Tehran’s “unconditional surrender.”
Iranian leaders speak in a winner's tone. The first Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref shares about the new beginning for the country. He says that the U.S. failed to collapse its government. Tehran also announced that the Strait of Hormuz would stay open as per the terms of the negotiations.
The shipping companies in the country signalled that they were cautious about resuming transit through the strait immediately. Two bulk carriers crossed the waterway on Wednesday, as per Kpler, a tracking company. A handful of ships have been noticed crossing the strait each day since the war started. Kpler said, ‘About 400 tankers and more vessels stay “efficiently stranded” in the Persian Gulf’.
The cease-fire did not end Israel’s offensive against Israel Hezbollah conflict. The Iranian-supported militant group in Lebanon and the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared in the statement. In early Wednesday, Fresh Iranian attacks were observed in Persian Gulf nations.
Showcasing the fragility of the ceasefire, Iran’s state media stated that an oil refinery on Lavan, an Iranian island in the Persian Gulf. It was struck at around 10 a.m. However, there is no news of casualties.
