Historic Oval Office Desk Sent for Touch-Up Amid Viral Incident

In a surprising turn of events, former U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the Resolute Desk to be removed from the Oval Office for refurbishment—just days after reports emerged that Elon Musk’s four-year-old son, X, may have wiped a booger on the historic piece of furniture.

According to reports from the New York Post and New York Daily News, the incident took place during Musk’s recent White House visit, where he was accompanied by his son. Videos of X mimicking his billionaire father and picking his nose quickly gained traction online. Allegedly, the child then wiped his fingers on the Resolute Desk while whispering something to Trump.

While Trump, known for his well-documented germophobia, has not directly addressed the incident, he did confirm the desk’s removal, stating:

"A President, after the election, gets a choice of one in seven desks. The 'C&O' desk, which was previously used by President George H.W. Bush and others, has been temporarily installed while the Resolute Desk is being lightly refinished—a very important job. This is a beautiful, but temporary replacement!"

The History of the Resolute Desk

The Resolute Desk, an iconic piece of White House furniture, was gifted to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880 by Queen Victoria as a symbol of goodwill and friendship between the U.S. and the United Kingdom. It has since been used by multiple U.S. presidents, including John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Barack Obama, and Trump himself.

Musk's Visit and the Viral Moment

Elon Musk’s White House appearance was tied to his new role in government, where he is leading the Department of Government Efficiency. During a press briefing, Trump introduced the billionaire’s son, saying:

"This is X, and he's a great guy—a high IQ individual."

The moment, however, was overshadowed by X’s playful antics, which quickly became the subject of internet memes and discussions. While there’s no official confirmation that the desk swap was due to the alleged booger incident, the timing has certainly raised eyebrows.

For now, the Resolute Desk is set to undergo a “light refinishing,” and the C&O desk will temporarily serve as its replacement in the Oval Office.
