In a surprising move, former US President Donald Trump has put a pause on reciprocal tariffs for most countries, opening the door for new trade talks. Following this announcement, 15 countries have stepped forward, hoping to strike fresh tariff agreements with the United States.

Kevin Hassett, an economic adviser to the White House, confirmed that these countries have already submitted their proposals, and discussions are underway. "The US Trade Representative (USTR) has informed us that around 15 countries have made clear offers. We are reviewing them carefully to decide which ones are strong enough to present to President Trump," Hassett said on Thursday.

The US administration is now weighing these proposals to see if they align with American interests and could potentially help ease tensions in the ongoing trade war that has wiped out billions of dollars from global markets.

Hassett also mentioned that key trade officials would meet at the White House later the same day to prioritize negotiations, focusing first on the countries considered most crucial for reaching swift agreements.

He added that significant developments are expected over the next three to four weeks, as the US shifts its trade policies and other nations respond.
