Tesla Manufacturing in India Inevitable, Says Elon Musk’s Father Errol Musk: “PM Modi and Elon Will Work It Out”

Errol Musk, father of Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, expressed strong confidence that a Tesla manufacturing plant will soon be established in India. Speaking exclusively to IANS during his visit to the national capital, Errol emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his son Elon will find a way to make it happen in a way that benefits both India and Tesla.
“Prime Minister Modi has to consider India’s interests, and Elon has to consider Tesla’s as a company. Between them, they will work out the best possible arrangement for both parties,” said the 79-year-old South African businessman. “I have no doubt that there will be a Tesla manufacturing plant in India. India is one of the most important places in the world.”
Errol Musk is currently a Global Advisor to homegrown Servotech Renewable Power System Ltd., underscoring his engagement with India’s rapid progress in sustainable development and electric mobility.
India has set ambitious goals for electric vehicle adoption, aiming for 30% EV penetration in passenger vehicles and up to 80% in two- and three-wheelers by 2030, positioning itself as a key player in the global green technology revolution.
In April, Elon Musk and PM Modi held a wide-ranging discussion on technology and innovation, with Elon expressing enthusiasm about visiting India later this year.
“It was an honour to speak with PM Modi. I am looking forward to visiting India later this year,” Musk posted on X.
The Prime Minister highlighted the strong collaboration potential between India and the US in tech innovation and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering these partnerships.
Meanwhile, Union Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy shared that major global carmakers such as Mercedes Benz, Skoda-Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Kia are showing strong interest in manufacturing electric vehicles in India.
However, on Tesla’s plans, the Minister remarked,
“We are not actually expecting manufacturing from Tesla as they are currently focused on launching showrooms in India and have not shown interest in manufacturing here yet.”
As India accelerates toward a greener future, eyes remain on Tesla and the Musk family to see how soon this ambitious manufacturing dream becomes a reality.
