The Ministry of National Defense (MND) of Taiwan declared the presence of 40 sorties of Chinese military aircraft and the operation of 8 naval vessels in the vicinity of the island as of 6 am local time on Thursday.

In a post on X, the ministry stated that the situation was closely monitored and appropriate responses were carried out by Taiwan’s armed forces.

This came a day after Taiwan reported detecting 23 sorties of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft by 8:30 am on Wednesday. Of these, 14 crossed the median line and entered multiple sectors of Taiwan’s ADIZ while conducting air-sea joint training along with Chinese naval vessels. Participating aircraft included fighter jets J-10, bombers H-6K, and KJ-500 early warning aircraft.

A week prior to this event, Taiwan had already reported seven Chinese warships near its shore. Moreover, the Ministry of National Defense had revealed that the Chinese PLA Navy's Fujian aircraft carrier (CV-18) was traversing the Taiwan Strait concurrently.

Taiwan's military announced that they were ready and had detected the situation doing so through their proper measures.

On the other hand, the US Senate has in a related issue, approved the Porcupine Act, which is meant to accelerate US arms sales and to enhance the military equipment transfer from American allies to Taiwan. The bill which is formally called the Providing Our Regional Companions Upgraded Protection in Nefarious Environments Act, is now waiting for the US House of Representatives' consideration before being sent to the president for signing into law.
