Seven Big Earthquakes That Have Struck Nepal Since 2015

On Friday, the Himalayan nation of Nepal experienced an earthquake that resulted in the loss of 128 lives and left dozens injured, with concerns of a rising casualty count.

Nepal, a economically challenged nation nestled between the two Asian giants, China and India, has experienced a series of earthquakes, with the most catastrophic being the 2015 earthquakes that claimed the lives of approximately 9,000 people.

Whole towns, centuries-old temples, and other historical sites were reduced to rubble during the 2015 earthquakes, resulting in the destruction of over 1 million homes and incurring an estimated economic cost of $6 billion

NOV 3, 2023

A powerful earthquake struck the western region of Jajarkot, claiming the lives of at least 128 people and injuring dozens. Houses in the area collapsed, and the tremors were felt as far as New Delhi, India. The German Research Centre for Geosciences recorded the earthquake as magnitude 5.7, while the U.S. Geological Survey measured it as 5.6.

OCT 3, 2023

Two earthquakes rocked western Nepal, resulting in 17 injuries, damage to homes, and a landslide that blocked a major highway. The landslide occurred in the district of Bajhang, bordering India, after earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.3 and 5.3.

JAN 24, 2023

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 caused at least one fatality and damaged over two dozen houses in a remote Nepalese district. The tremors were felt as far away as New Delhi.
