Samsung Reportedly Begins Layoffs in US; Employees Stranded Mid-Business Trips
Samsung has reportedly started laying off US staff, with some employees left stranded mid-trip, claims Reddit user; no official statement yet.
Samsung reportedly begins US layoffs, with sudden terminations leaving some employees stranded during business trips.

The global wave of tech layoffs appears to have reached Samsung’s US operations. According to a Reddit post by a user claiming to be an employee, the South Korean tech giant has started laying off several long-time staff members in the United States without prior notice, sparking concern and outrage online.
The post, made by Reddit user “UndercoverGeekGirl” in the platform’s “layoffs” community, was titled “Notice: Samsung layoffs started” and was marked under the “recently laid off” tag. She alleged that entire teams of veteran employees were cut abruptly, and some colleagues on business trips were left stranded due to the sudden cancellation of their company credit cards.
“Samsung began laying off some US employees this morning. Our whole team of longtime employees was cut,” the user wrote. “Some employees who were travelling on business trips were left stranded with their company cards closed without warning. I don’t know how far-reaching it is at this stage,” she added.
Layoffs May Be Linked to Earlier Cost-Cutting Plans
Several users speculated that the layoffs could be part of a wider restructuring plan hinted at in 2024. At the time, Reuters had reported that Samsung was directing its global subsidiaries to implement job cuts — including a 15% reduction in sales and marketing roles and up to 30% cuts in administrative departments.
Online Reactions: Shock and Frustration
The Reddit post quickly drew attention and emotional responses. One user said, “Leaving people stranded is not okay, and I hope they take legal action.” Another commented, “This is the worst generation of business executives in history.”
- Others shared similar stories of abrupt layoffs at different companies, where employees were let go mid-vacation or during sabbaticals, and access to systems was cut off instantly.
- Some also pointed out that many severance packages now include non-disparagement clauses, limiting the ability of laid-off employees to speak publicly about the companies involved.
As of now, Samsung has not issued an official statement regarding the reported layoffs.
