The epicenter was located approximately 119 kilometers (74 miles) from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city of 180,000 in Russia’s Far East. Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov described it as the strongest earthquake in decades, confirming damage to infrastructure, including a kindergarten.
