Liverpool pulled off a stunning 3-2 victory over Newcastle United in a dramatic Premier League clash at St. James’ Park, thanks to a 100th-minute winner from 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha, who became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer.

Liverpool Survive Newcastle Comeback

The Reds initially looked comfortable after Ryan Gravenberch and new signing Hugo Ekitike put them 2-0 up. Newcastle’s hopes took a hit when Anthony Gordon was sent off for a reckless tackle on Virgil van Dijk.

But despite being a man down, the Magpies mounted a spirited fightback. Goals from Bruno Guimaraes and William Osula leveled the score, igniting the home crowd.

Just when the match seemed destined for a draw, Mohamed Salah’s pass and Dominik Szoboszlai’s clever dummy set up Ngumoha, who calmly slotted the winner in the 100th minute—just days before his 17th birthday.

Arne Slot on the Dramatic Finish

Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised the spectacle, saying:

“This is also what makes the Premier League special. Maybe not the best tactical game, but every fan across the world enjoyed watching it.”

Liverpool’s Strong Start, Newcastle’s Struggles

The victory means Liverpool remain unbeaten, sharing maximum points with Tottenham and Arsenal, who visit Anfield on Sunday.

Newcastle, however, are still searching for their first league win of the season. Their problems have been compounded by the absence of Alexander Isak, who scored the winner in last season’s League Cup final but has not featured this season as he pushes for a transfer.

Liverpool have already had a £110 million bid rejected, with Newcastle demanding a record-breaking £150 million for the Swedish striker. Adding to Newcastle’s frustration, Liverpool managed to sign Ekitike, a player Newcastle had lined up as a possible replacement.
