PM Modi Discusses Technology and Innovation Collaboration with Elon Musk

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared on Friday that he had a conversation with US billionaire Elon Musk, discussing the potential for collaboration in technology and innovation between India and the United States. The discussion comes just days ahead of US Vice President J.D. Vance’s upcoming visit to India, and amid ongoing talks for a bilateral trade agreement.

Following their conversation, Modi posted on X, saying, “Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains.”

The two leaders last met in February 2025 during Modi’s visit to Washington, DC, where he also met with US President Donald Trump. During that meeting, Modi highlighted discussions on “space, mobility, technology, and innovation,” as well as India's commitment to "Minimum Government, Maximum Governance."

Musk, who heads Tesla, SpaceX, and X, has significant business interests in India. He had previously planned a visit to India in 2024, with plans to invest over $2 billion into a car manufacturing facility, but the trip was postponed due to challenges faced by Tesla, including lower-than-expected sales and declining stock values.

In addition to his business ventures, Musk is involved in US efforts to reduce wasteful government spending, although his actions have been controversial. Despite disagreements within President Trump’s inner circle, Musk’s influence remains strong, and he has been vocal in supporting the H1B visa program, which benefits India.

Modi and Musk’s continued discussions are seen as crucial to strengthening India-US ties, especially in areas of technology, space exploration, and trade.
