Operation Sindoor Impact: Flights from Bengaluru to Five States Cancelled Amid Airspace Restrictions
Bengaluru, May 8, 2025 – In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian Army in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack, multiple flight operations across India have been disrupted, including key routes from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru.
As a precautionary measure, flights from Bengaluru to Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan (Jodhpur), and Uttar Pradesh (Ayodhya, Lucknow, Ghaziabad) have been temporarily cancelled. These cancellations follow a central government directive enforcing airspace restrictions across multiple regions, particularly those close to sensitive northern borders.
🔺 Army Strikes Spark Flight Disruptions
Operation Sindoor saw Indian armed forces carry out precision missile strikes on terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Following this, the Indian civil aviation network implemented temporary restrictions on air routes, leading to widespread disruption of commercial air traffic.
🛫 Bengaluru Airport Issues Advisory
Kempegowda International Airport confirmed in an official statement via social media that some flight services were being impacted due to restrictions over certain aviation corridors.
“There are airspace restrictions in place that may affect select flights operating in our network. Passengers are advised to check directly with their respective airlines for the latest flight status before heading to the airport,” the airport authority stated on X (formerly Twitter).
Passengers are also encouraged to follow the official X handles of their airlines for real-time updates.
⚠️ Mangaluru Airport Also Affected
Mangaluru Airport authorities also issued a travel advisory, warning passengers of possible disruptions and requesting travelers to confirm flight schedules in advance. A notification from the Mangaluru Airport Division emphasized that all passengers must check for updates before arriving at the terminal.
✈️ Broader Impact Across the Country
Operation Sindoor has led to significant flight disruptions nationwide. Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport alone reported 90 flight cancellations on Thursday, and a total of 27 airports across Northern India have been closed to commercial flights until Saturday morning.
The Indian government has clarified that these strikes were "focused, measured, and non-escalatory," targeting only terrorist infrastructure and not Pakistani military facilities. The decision to impose airspace restrictions was taken to ensure passenger safety and national security amid ongoing military operations.
Travelers are urged to remain alert to official advisories and confirm all flight information before departing for the airport.
