Netflix is actually aiming for the stars. Netflix will soon carry NASA+ material in a historic agreement announced Monday, giving viewers an unmatched up-close look at space exploration later this summer.
As a result of this partnership, Netflix subscribers will have the opportunity to watch live rocket launches, astronaut spacewalks, real-time Earth views from the ISS, and other fascinating NASA scientific activities and missions.
Bringing Space Travel Nearer to Earth
Launched in 2023, NASA+ is the agency's ad-free streaming service that offers live events, documentaries, and exclusive content about NASA's technologies and achievements. Previously exclusive to NASA's official app and website, NASA+ will soon be accessible to over 700 million Netflix subscribers worldwide.
The common objective of both agencies is to "tell the story of space exploration to the broadest possible audience and inspire new generations—whether from the comfort of their couch or on the go," said Rebecca Sirmons, general manager of NASA+.
This is the first time NASA's live video has been streamed on Netflix, adding to the service's increasing investment in live programming, which already includes comedy specials, award ceremonies, and sports.
NASA's Growing Streaming Presence
Although NASA+ on Netflix is a recent initiative, NASA and Prime Video collaborated to introduce a free FAST channel with advertisements earlier this year. Given the enormous subscription base of Netflix, the partnership is anticipated to increase NASA's outreach even more.
What to anticipate and when
Later this summer, NASA+ will debut on Netflix; a complete schedule of shows will be unveiled closer to the launch date. In addition to live streams, viewers can anticipate documentaries, interviews, and behind-the-scenes access to NASA's most recent scientific discoveries and missions.
